Hey internet! Sorry for being MIA for awhile, I was in California for a week doing several shoots and a wedding…which you will see up here eventually. Today I am posting a wedding of our very dear friends, Will and Melissa, that took place in Kansas at the Deer Creek Golf Club. Ever since their engagement shoot last September, David and I have really gotten to know this couple and they have become very close friends of ours. Will and Melissa are both from Kansas, and lucky for David and I moved out to California together. Over the past year, we have watched their relationship grow in so many ways and we know they could not be more perfect for each other. For those of you that don’t know them, all I can say is no one is like Will and Melissa. They are both some of the funniest, genuine and caring friends you will ever meet. It’s obvious to anyone that knows them this match was perfectly orchestrated. Will and Melissa, thank you so much for letting David and I be apart of such a big day, in your typical fashion you had me laughing and crying behind my camera at different points in the day. We love you guys, enjoy the pics!

Melissa you are so gorgeous. Inside and out.

Will and Melissa decided to have a first look and see each other before the wedding. This is such a nice intimate moment the bride and groom can share between just the two of them.

I wish there were more churches like this where I live. This little church made me feel like I was in an earlier time.
Will and his groomsmen were definitely some of the best guys I have had when it comes to posing.

Their getaway car.
One of my favorites.
David caught this awesome one, I love it.

One of my other favorites from the day.

Melissa you look HOT! Will you clean up pretty nicely too…

The last time I saw Ashley and Dylan was in Washington D.C. for their Engagement Shoot, which just so happens to be the first time David and I met them. However, after spending the day with them it was like we were old friends. When we showed up in Sonoma wine country two months later to shoot their wedding, Ashley was the most calm bride I have ever seen! She was so laid back and joking around with everyone, completely at ease and ready to marry her groom! Ashley and Dylan’s story truly is a whirlwind romance…and as Ashley’s mom said in her toast at the wedding it was so unlike the scientific, planned and calculated Ashley everyone knew to fall in love so quickly. But when it’s right, it’s right…and it is definitely right with these two. Dylan and Ashley, you two really are one of my favorite couples. Those around you can’t help but notice how in love you are and how genuine that love is. It really makes me so happy to do what I do when it can be with couples like you. David and I had a blast at the Viansa Winery (yes our job is not too shabby) celebrating your wedding day. The scenery was GORGEOUS and so were the two of you. David and I hope you enjoy these photos for the rest of what we know will be a very full and wonderful life together.

This is hands down my favorite place ever to take photos of a wedding dress. Wasn’t Ashley’s AMAZING?!
For Dylan and Ashley’s first look Ashley came up out of the wine cellar…
…their reaction was priceless.
I don’t know why, but there is just something about this one that I love.

I DO.

After the ceremony, David and I headed off with the happy couple for some portraits. The Viansa has sooo many amazing spots for photos…a photographer’s dream. We started off in the wine cellar.

Then headed out to the vines.

Near the vineyards was this amazing wheat field.

Presenting Mr. and Mrs. Dylan Fisher!!!

For Part Two of Barrett and Amy’s Engagement shoot we decided to go to Chataqua and Flagstaff Mountain in Boulder, CO. First, because Amy went to school at CU in Boulder, so Chataqua and Flagstaff Mountain are special places for her and now Barrett since she had taken him there the times he visited. Secondly, and maybe most importantly, this is where Barrett proposed. That story began New Years Eve morning…Amy woke up to a surprise taped to the bathroom mirror. It was a weather forecast for Boulder….then she found a Christmas card on her pillow with two plane tickets to Colorado! He had planned a trip, contacted her friends, rented a car, called both her bosses, and had taken her parents out to dinner to ask permission, all without Amy having a clue! Once they got there, they were supposed to go out to a New Years party with some friends, but instead Barrett said he wanted to go look at and take photos with the big star that is lit up on the side of Flagstaff Mountain. So they started to drive up Flagstaff and Barrett pulled off at an overlook. This overlook happens to have a bench where Amy used to spend a lot of time in college thinking and praying and figuring out her life. He walked her over to that bench, set up a camera and started the self timer and ran back and forth a couple of times to snap some pics overlooking Boulder. The third time he set the timer he ran back to her and got down on his knee, and as Amy says, “…said a million really nice things, none of which I actually heard, and then he asked me to marry him and to take off my mitten. He put the prettiest ring ever on my finger. IT WAS PERFECT!!!!”
Barrett and Amy, we are so happy the two of you found each other! David and I feel so honored to not only share in your love story but to also capture it. We can’t wait for your wedding in Minnesota early this fall!!

As I said last post, Amy and Barrett are just fun and have the best interaction with one another.

FIERCE!!! Love this one!

I couldn’t get over the beautiful yellow wildflowers that were growing everywhere at the base of the Flatirons, they were so pretty!
After shooting in Chataqua, we headed up the mountain to Flagstaff where Barrett proposed to Amy.
Sitting on Amy’s bench…

The proposal took place right here!

One of my favorites.

The view from the top of Flagstaff is breathtaking, both during the day and at night.
We ended the day with some sunset shots at a pond near our house.

So I know lately I have been starting almost all the blog posts by saying “This post is very special to me…” and I guess that’s because they all really are special to me since all my clients are so cool and end up becoming great friends. But this post really is extra special to me, David and I have known Amy since college, and she is a close friend to both of us. For those that know Amy, they know she is a bit of a wanderer….I don’t know that anybody knows the actual total number of times she has moved between now and college graduation, but let’s just say it’s a lot! So we all knew when she moved back to her native Minnesota (not Colorado or California) just in time for Winter, it had to be a special guy that was getting this girl to settle down. And Barrett is just that, a very special guy….here a little bit of their love story…
Last April Amy flew home to Minnesota for her and her friend’s annual April Birthday Bash. She was really excited that year because she was going to get to meet her sister Ashley’s boyfriend Brent, and double bonus Ashley decided to do a little matchmaking for Amy. The festivities began with dinner followed by a night on the town. It was during this night on the town that Amy started to take notice of a really nice boy…albeit not the boy Ashley was fixing her up with. For some reason he kept ending up next to her throughout the night, and as Amy says “…he was sitting awfully close to me on the couch…I mean really, we had just met.” As the weekend unfolded, although Amy was slightly distracted by Ashley’s original matchmaking attempt with Brent’s other friend, Amy continued to notice two things: that this Barrett boy was really nice and for some reason he kept winding up next to her. After the weekend, Amy headed back home to Colorado and for some reason kept thinking about how nice those “Minnesota Boys” were. Of course she couldn’t keep quiet for too long and called her sister her first morning back in Colorado and told her, “I think I have a crush on Barrett’s niceness and if you tell anyone I’ll kill you!” So what did she do? Of course…she spilled the beans to Brent who of course accidently mentioned something to Barrett and so starts their whirlwind romance! A few weeks after her visit, Amy received an email from Barrett reminding her to wish the other guy Ashley had originally matched her up with a happy birthday…she thanked him for the reminder and preceded to jump around her office giddily because she got an email from him! Thus started their email exchange which lasted until Amy’s return to Minnesota in the Summer. They continued to get to know each other throughout the Summer and just as Amy was about the head back to Colorado, Barrett made his move. He asked if they could have lunch, and then they spent the rest of the weekend together before Amy headed back to Colorado. After 6 weeks of visiting and emailing back and forth, and Barrett meeting Amy’s friends and visiting her favorite places in Boulder, Amy realized she had fallen head over heels in love…and she told Barrett! From there, a lot of pieces fell into place (job, living, etc) and Amy made the move back home to Minnesota! She told me, “It was a crazy adventure and I am thankful everyday that Barrett was the one driving that moving truck.”
This is just Part One of Two from this engagement shoot. We started the day at Union Station in Denver. We decided to do a vintage look in keeping with the theme of their wedding. Check back later this week for Part Two which took place up at Chataqua in Boulder, CO and a slideshow!

Just waiting for their train…
Amy you look so beautiful here.
I love these. Amy and Barrett have such a natural, fun and easy way about them!

I love seeing the Denver skyscrapers in the background and the little bit of color it adds to the photo.

I love this little series.

Hey Barrett, watch those hands!

Happy 4th of July everybody! I hope everyone had a fun day barbecuing, watching fireworks and spending time with friends and family. We had a great weekend up in the mountains with some family where we did some hiking, barbecuing, parade watching, card playing, mellow roasting and firework watching…it was fab! It was definitely my favorite weekend of the Summer so far! Enjoy some of the snapshots below and as my niece Ava says, “Happy Birthday America!”
