TEXAS
Spring Break

FILED IN: Personal

At the end of March, the Poppleton crew took a road trip to Texas! Other than a business trip for David and a trip to Amarillo for my horse show in college, we had never been to Texas and thought this was a good opportunity to explore a new place. My criteria for spring break was I wanted to go somewhere we could drive and that was going to be nicer than CO. I wanted to get away where it would be warmer and green. We lucked out and the weather was perfect! 70s and sunny the whole time. We drove from Colorado to Waco and spent 2 nights and a day there exploring Magnolia Market and the Silos. It was a really fun experience to see it all. The kids had a ball playing lawn games and feasting on delicious cupcakes. I of course loved seeing the home goods at the market and taking in the design elements of the entire place.

From there we drove to Austin and spent our first day looking at murals, exploring South Congress Street and eating tacos. We loved the vibe in Austin and it actually reminded us in some ways of Boulder. The next day, we rode the Zilker Zephyr train, had a picnic and then swam at Barton Springs Pool, which was VERY cold!

I loved the farmhouse we rented for the second part of our trip. It was close to Austin AND Hill Country so it gave us the ability to explore both places. We really enjoyed having coffee on the front porch while the kids played, relaxing, playing music, making dinner and drinking wine and of course swinging on the porch swing.  We ended our trip by exploring Hill Country.  We lucked out and hit the timing PERFECTLY to see the bluebonnets. We started at Wildseed Farms in Fredericksburg and then did the Willow City Loop  where the bluebonnets were AMAZING!!!  They were absolutely gorgeous and of course I made the kids pose for some photos, because how could I not?!? We ended the trip by stopping by the tiny town of Luckenbach, TX made famous by the Waylon Jennings’ song. I loved the gorgeous oak trees, the tiny post office/bar, wild chickens running around and live music.

We drove home exhausted from all the fun we had but with full hearts and grateful for the time to all be together. We love exploring new places and making memories with one another…now, where to go next year?!
