I feel so lucky to have gotten a chance to not only photograph Brittany and Andy’s engagement session but also their wedding a few weeks ago in California. From the minute we met it was as if we had known them for years. Brittany’s warm and generous spirit is infectious to all she meets. And Andy’s calm yet playful personality creates the perfect balance. Prior to our shoot Brittany and I had been emailing and she warned me, “We could definitely use the help with posing and taking pictures, we aren’t the best when it comes to the camera…we probably error on the shy side.” Ummm excuse me…I don’t think so!! I think anyone who lays eyes on these photos will back me up in saying they are naturals! Not only that, but they met David and I the DAY BEFORE their wedding at 7:00 AM to boot!!
The story of how these two met is pretty cute. Andy and Brittany’s relationship began when their dear friends Anna and Tim decided to set them up on a blind date. Only this date was a weekend camping trip. Anna and Britt met each other at Southern Methodist University and were close friends and sorority sisters. Andy and Tim met at the Naval Academy, went to flight school together and eventually became roommates in the following years where they pursued their love of flying together. Tim and Anna had been dating a few years when they thought it would be a good idea to set Andy and Britt up on a blind date, so they orchestrated what might be one of the longest blind dates yet! They put together a “group” camping trip at Montana de Oro in the fall of October 2012. Andy and Tim drove down a night early to set up the camp and Anna and Britt drove up the following day to meet up with the whole group, only Britt quickly learned that there was no longer a group! Anxious and full of butterflies, the four of them successfully went camping together and the weekend turned out great, other than a few awkward moments, including encountering a pack of ravenous raccoons that ate the entire food supply! Andy and Britt spent their first moments getting to know each other stuck in a kayak soaking wet from the waves crashing over them which made for interesting conversation! But all of the funny moments aside, Andy and Britt realized how much fun they had together and how comfortable they felt around each other. So they decided to keep in touch after the camping trip. For two and a half years they spent as many weekends together as possible and dealt with the additional distance that the Navy often times brought about. Through many emotional goodbyes and overwhelmingly joyful hellos as Andy was sent off on the Aircraft carrier they found a way to make the relationship work. Almost exactly two years later in October 2014 Andy proposed to Britt in Deer Valley Utah at the Montage Hotel.
I can’t wait to share more of these two from their gorgeous wedding VERY soon! Stay tuned.
