I am so excited to finally post this wedding! As usual for this time of year things have been crazy! Any time David and I get the opportunity to shoot a wedding in Steamboat we are beyond thrilled! We have fallen in love with this little western ski town and are starting to think of it as a home away from home. Ryan and Katie’s wedding did not disappoint. Since they are both Steamboat natives, it was only fitting that they chose a venue that embodied the beauty and magic this wonderful place has to offer. Flying Diamond Ranch is something out of a movie. When David and I first stepped on the property the day before, we couldn’t believe our eyes…giant groves of Aspen trees nestled in between beautiful mountains, long grasses and wildflowers. To top it all off, there is the coolest teepee and string lights strung in the middle of the aspen grove, simply a dream!!
The day could not have been more beautiful–blue skies, sunshine, not too hot–the perfect Steamboat summer day. The bridesmaids wore colorful floral dresses and Katie stunned in a one of a kind bohemian lace Justin Alexander gown and a floral crown. One of Ryan’s groomsmen handmade a Maile lei with leaves he had picked from the oldest forest in Hawaii. He brought it all the way to Steamboat for Ryan to wear on his wedding day. The placing of a lei over the head and around the shoulders exemplifies the bestowing of honor and respect and the spirit of aloha. The couple said their vows in the middle of an aspen grove with warm sunshine pouring through the trees. From that moment on it was party time! Guests danced the night away in a clear tent that glowed beneath the stars. It was such a magical day for the new Mr. and Mrs. Carter and we could not have been more honored to be apart of it!
